What is Pediatric Occupational Therapy?

A child’s "occupation" is to play, learn, and grow. Pediatric occupational therapy helps children build the physical, cognitive, and emotional skills they need to succeed in these daily "jobs" whether at home, in school, or on the playground.

Could Your Child Benefit?

OT is for children who need targeted support, as well as those who simply thrive in structured, enriching environments. Your child might benefit if they:

Struggle with fine motor tasks (holding a pencil, using scissors, buttoning clothes).

Seem clumsy or uncoordinated during gross motor play (jumping, climbing, balancing).

Are easily overwhelmed by sensory input (loud noises, specific clothing textures, messy play).

Have difficulty self-regulating their emotions or handling transitions between activities.

Need a confidence boost in social settings or peer interactions.

Would enjoy an enriching space to proactively build strength, focus, and coordination through play.

What Clients Say

Testimonials

"Melanie has been an absolute blessing for our family. My son used to have massive meltdowns during transitions and struggled with big emotions. Through her 1-on-1 sessions, he has learned how to self-regulate in ways we never thought possible. The best part? He just thinks he’s playing! Melanie’s patience and expertise have completely changed our daily routines at home."

Sarah T.

Mother of a 4-year-old
"We enrolled my daughter in the Sensory Enrichment Classes just to give her some structured social time before starting preschool. It was the best decision we made! She is naturally shy, but the small group setting and Melanie’s gentle guidance helped her blossom. She now confidently shares with peers, navigates group instructions, and loves getting her hands dirty in the sensory bins."

David L.

Father of a 3-year-old
"When my kindergartener was falling behind with handwriting and scissor skills, we reached out to Sensory Steps. Melanie made the fine motor work so incredibly fun. In just a few months, his pencil grip improved drastically, and he’s so much more confident in the classroom. We are so grateful for her dedicated support and positive energy."

Elena M.

Mother of a 6-year-old
"The evaluation process with Melanie was so thorough and eye-opening. She didn't just hand us a clinical report; she took the time to explain exactly how my child processes the world. The parent coaching she provides has given us simple, everyday play tools to use at home. I finally feel equipped and confident in supporting my child's unique needs."

Michael R.

Father of a 5-year-old
"My son was always hesitant to climb at the playground and avoided anything with a 'weird' texture. Since working one-on-one with Melanie, his coordination, balance, and core strength have skyrocketed. He’s now navigating obstacle courses and exploring tactile play without hesitation. Melanie has an incredible gift for making children feel safe while gently challenging them to grow."

Jessica P.

Mother of a 4-year-old
"We initially didn't have any specific developmental concerns, but we wanted a fun, purposeful activity for our daughter. Melanie's enrichment groups are fantastic. It’s so reassuring to know that her playtime is actively building her attention, focus, and peer skills under the guidance of a professional occupational therapist. Highly recommend Sensory Steps to any parent!"
